PhD Day School of Engineering

Our PhD program participates actively to the PhD Day of the School of Engineering.

The event is promoted by the four doctorate programs at the Engineering School of the University of Florence. It aims to facilitate acquaintance among PhD students and facilitate contamination between knowledge and experiences in different research domains. Participation to the event is open to all PhD students, master students, PhD students advisors, and anyone who wish to attend, even if only partially. Representatives of industries and companies are also welcome.

 

PhD students of the enrolled cycles are invited to propose a short presentation (12 at most from each of the three Departments will be selected) and/or present posters, either individually or as a research group (up to 5 people).

At the end of the PhD Day winners of the Best Poster Award and of the Best Presentation Award will be announced. There is a winner for each Department (so three winners for the best poster, three winners for the best presentation). Each winner (or winning team) receives a certificate and a 500€ increase in their research budget (note that students belonging to the XXXVI cycle are not eligible for the prize).
(Winners of the best presentation award will not be considered as candidates for the best poster award).
In case the winner is a team, each member will receive the certificate and the research budget will be shared among team members.

Since we deeply believe in the importance of this event of exchange, since 2023 we stopped organizing the spring plenary meeting, keeping only the fall session of this event, to maximise the participation of the PhD Students to this special event promoting all their researches.

PHD DAY 2025 SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
A great success for the event in S.Marta

 

On May 22, 2025, was held in S.Marta the third edition of PHD DAY. Promoted by the four doctoral programs of the School of Engineering of the University of Florence, the event aims to facilitate the acquaintance among doctoral students and the contamination between knowledge and experience in different research fields, as well as the meeting with the business world.

The event was open to anybody, especially doctoral students, students and professors, and to companies in the area, an important reference for the initiative, and really participated.

The program included presentations by PhD students (35 in total from each of the three Departments) and a poster session, both individual and by research group. The best for each department were awarded prizes at the end of the event and the winners were:

For the DICEA

For the DIEF

• Best Poster Award Federica Savelli and Alessandra Linari
• Best Presentation Award Maurizio Guadagno

For the DINFO

• Best Poster Award Chiara Albisani
• Best Presentation Award Simone Giovannini

The winners will have extra resources for research and mobility. 

So the appointment is for the 2026 edition of PHD DAY, to design the future of engineering research together!
