The Hydrologic Sciences Early Career Award by the American Geophysical Union is presented annually and recognizes outstanding contributions to hydrology through research, education, or societal impacts.
In 2020 this award was won by Prof. Simone Fatichi, a brilliant researcher who successfully attended our doctoral program in 2007-2010.
Here the motivation for the award: “… for significant contributions to the Science of Hydrology through the understanding and modeling physical and ecosystem processes at the hydrology-biogeosciences-climate interface. … Prof. Fatichi has an impressive, highly cited publication record with contributions that are likely to have a significant and long-lasting impact in the field. He is an advocate for open research – sharing codes, data, and expertise. He is an outstanding mentor, teacher, and impactful colleague for many young and established scientists.”
Prof. Simone Fatichi is having considerable academic success and this one is not the first recognition he receives. In 2019 he was awarded "Premio Feltrinelli Giovani" by the Italian Accademica dei Lincei in the field of “Engineering of Complex Systems”, for his outstanding career as young scientist and for his contributions to the field of ecohydrology, understanding and modelling of processes controlling plant physiology, soil bio-geochemistry and nutrient dynamics, as well as their interaction with climate in the context of global change, resource exploitation and ecosystem services.
