Open Workshop
Water-Ecosystems Management for Resilient Cities
Firenze, October 24th, 2019
11:00 – 18:00: Aula Magna, School of Agriculture
Abstract
Urban ecosystems are characterized by complex interactions between natural and built environment. A sustainable water management in urban areas increasingly includes rainwater harvesting and stormwater management structures, and accounts for the effect of the built landscape on urban rivers and urbanized catchments. The management of urban ecosystems directed at maintaining a safe and healthy environment is vital for the resilience of cities against extreme events such as floods, droughts, and heat waves. The workshop aims to bring together expertise from different research fields and backgrounds to discuss the state-of-the-art of science and technology related to Water-Ecosystems Management for Resilient Cities. Topics addressed in the workshop will range from stormwater harvesting and management to the ecohydrology of rivers and green areas in urban environments.
The workshop is organised within the framework of the internalisation program of the Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI), Università degli Studi di Firenze (Italy), leveraging on the international agreement between Monash University (Australia) and Università degli Studi di Firenze.
